Fossil Capital of the Sahara

Erfoud is a frontier desert town known as the fossil capital of Morocco, where ancient trilobites and ammonites from the Saharan seabed are carved into furniture and art. It marks the final stop before the Merzouga dunes, and its date palm groves and rose-pink dune landscape signal you've truly arrived at the edge of the Sahara. The town hosts a famous Date Festival every October.
